Santa Bárbara Castle is a fortification in the center of Alicante, Spain. It stands on Mount Benacantil bordering the sea, which gave it enormous strategic value since from it you can see the entire bay of Alicante and its land surroundings, from 1706 until 1709, during the War of the Spanish Succession, Santa Bárbara Castle was held by English troops. They surrendered when in 1709 part of the castle collapsed as a result of mining by troops of Felipistas under General D'Asfeld. Accessed either via a tunnel and then lift, from the beach side, or climbing steps from the old town.

Gran Alacant is a new and modern coastal urbanization which is set next to the beach, it boasts of a large beautiful blue flag beach, with numerous beach bars, sports bars and various other seaside activities. Within walking distance there is a large choice of bars & international restaurants. various supermarkets close by, also there is a shopping center within walking distance, selling anything from perfumes, shoes and clothes. It has a buzzing atmosphere at night with various bars offering live music and entertainment! Bus service & various coach trips are also available to take you to various towns and attractions. various chemists with staff that speak reasonable English. A street market is just a short walk from the villa. Major cities locally are Elche, Torrevieja, Benidorm & Alicante, easily reached by bus or car.

The local beach, “Carabassi” is about 1.5 km away and is one of the best beaches in the Costa Blanca area with its clean, soft sands, it often wins the blue ribbon award, It has four beach bars if you need a nice cold beer or some food.

Isla Tabarca, short boat trip away on a glass bottom boat, is the island of Tabarca, once a paradise for pirates, now, it’s a nature reserve, where you can spend the day snorkeling the clear crystal waters, laying on the beach or enjoying a Paella in one of the many restaurants. take a walk in the village looking for a souvenir or exploring the fortified part and the church of San Pedro y San Pablo.

Fonts de l'Algar, a beauty spot where nature is at its finest. Equipped with tourist services, it was declared a Protected Water Area in 2002. during your visit, you can walk 1.5km along the banks of the river Algar, which in Arabic means “cave”. The pathway will immerse you in a landscape that is the result of the karst process on the limestone, composed of spectacular waterfalls, springs and sources that bubble up out of the rock, as well as the pools where you can take refreshing dips in the pure and crystalline waters.

The Route in Anna of the three Waterfalls is one of the most spectacular hiking routes in the province of Valencia. The 3 km route lasts approximately two hours. The degree of difficulty is medium - high as it has several complicated sections and slippery flood areas. Recommended for children over 6 years old and people in good physical health. It runs along the banks of the Anna River and there we can enjoy three beautiful waterfalls.

las Hogueras Alicante celebrates the arrival of summer with the bonfires of San Juan. In a spectacular display of music, color and fireworks, thousands of people throng the streets to experience this fiesta which pays tribute to fire. The Fogueres de Sant Joan Festivals are one of the most important events in the city’s diary. This festival has been officially declared to be of International Tourist Interest and its origins lie in the tradition of burning useless objects with the arrival of the summer solstice.

This is the most important celebration, beginning on the 20th June and lasting until the 29th. It is a festival dedicated to fire, including events such as the proclamation (The Pregón), the setting up of the bonfires (the Plantà), the procession of the effigies (Cabalgata del Ninot), parades and processions in different neighborhoods of the city and the main event on the 24th June, the feast day of Saint John Baptist, when large satirical statues made of cardboard and wood are set alight.
